Coronavirus Updates
Hello students! It was recently announced that all schools will be closed in North Carolina until May 15th. Due to this, we are going to be starting online education as soon as possible. For my class, we will be interacting mainly using Google classroom. I know that you have used Google Classroom before in Mrs. Trivette's class, but I will still link some directions and an instructional video below. Please be patient with me during this transition, since I have never used anything like this in my classroom.
Also, wash your hands, stop touching your face, and BE SAFE PEOPLE!

MY PLAN FOR REMOTE LEARNING
As we move forward with the Coronavirus pandemic, it has become clear that we will likely not be returning for in-person classes this year. In light of this, I will start using Google classroom the week of March 30th to share articles, videos, presentations, and for you to submit online assignments for grading. There will not be any assignments posted there until then.
However, your first assignment is to SIGN UP FOR THE CLASS BEFORE MARCH 30TH!
Once everything is up and running, students should expect around 30 minutes of daily work from my class. We will begin where we last left off, World War 1! I am excited and nervous (nervcited?!) for this new style of teaching and I hope that it is successful for all of us! That being said, there will be some mistakes along the way (mostly from me) and that is perfectly ok. All I ask is that you give your best effort moving forward. As things become more concrete and finalized, you can check back here for updates about google classroom and using Zoom. Zoom is a website that would allow us all to basically FaceTime as a class. Again, this is not confirmed, but it is something that should be expected moving forward.
UPDATE!
I have got my Google Classroom set up (mostly...) and it should be good to go Monday, March 30th for your assignments. Thank you for those of you that have already signed up for the class with the code found below. Everyone else, GET ON IT!!! All of your weekly assignments will be found here, along with a pacing guide showing you a manageable way to complete the assignments given before their deadline. All new assignments will be published at 8:00AM on Mondays. All assignments from the previous week will be due at 11:59PM on Sundays.
I will have a weekly Zoom time that I am available to the students (Tues./Thurs. from 10-10:45AM). You can access the Zoom here. The password is Mr.J'sZoom. Below are some expectations for these alotted Zoom times:
Lastly, I believe that soon I will begin making videos of myself presenting the notes we would have normally taken in class. I will post the videos on my google classroom to access throughout our units. If there seems to be enough interest, I would love to spend some time on the production value of these videos. We will just have to see if I am fated to become a "YouTube Teacher."
HOW TO ACCESS MY GOOGLE CLASSROOM
1. Go to Google Classroom.
2. Click the plus sign (+) in the upper-right hand corner of the screen.
3. Click "Join Class."
4. Enter my class code -> ftyj6jx
If you or your parents are still unsure how to access/interact with my google classroom, please watch this instructional video and it should get you up to speed. Also, feel free to contact me at my school email (jarvisk@wilkes.k12.nc.us) with any questions.

- Be sure to be in a quiet space (TVs and music in the background make it difficult to hear in our meeting)
- When a teacher is talking please allow them to talk. Talking over other conversations only makes it hard for everyone to hear.
- As you come across questions while working on your assignments, write them down and have them ready to ask before joining the Zoom.
- Have your class materials and assignments in front of you as if you were in class so we can refer to them during our meeting.
- These meetings are an opportunity for us as your teachers to check in on you and an opportunity for you as a student to ask us questions about your assignments.
- These meetings are not meant for you to:
- Have sidebar convos with your friends
- No need for dancing or singing, no clowning around
